SOUL CONTAINERS
En lo alto de los Andes, reposaban siete cuencos.
Tejidos con hilos del tiempo, guardaban —dicen— almas.
Ochocientos años de silencio, preservados como susurros sagrados.
Un hallazgo único, un entierro de almas.
High in the Andes, seven bowls lay in rest.
Woven with threads of time, they held — they say — souls.
Eight hundred years of silence, preserved like sacred whispers.
A unique discovery, a burial of souls.

Vivimos en la era de la precuela. Las sagas populares de nuestro tiempo, El señor de los anillos, La guerra de las galaxias y Juego de tronos, ahora han regresado a sus antiguas raíces.
Solíamos preguntar, "¿Qué sigue?" y "¿Qué pasa al final?"
Ahora preguntamos, "¿Qué pasó al principio?"
Tal vez tenemos miedo de lo que viene y queremos volver. Tal vez sea un ciclo natural volver a los orígenes.
Es oportuno, entonces, que la Bienal de Artesanía y Diseño de Tel Aviv invite a artistas de todo el mundo a compartir sus obras en una tierra tan asociada en la imaginación del mundo con la era bíblica, donde se forjaron las creencias fundamentales. Sus obras nos conectan con una diversidad de raíces ancestrales.
Este impulso no debe asociarse con movimientos agresivos que busquen la restauración de los días de gloria del pasado, como en Make America Great Again, Brexit y la invasión de Ucrania. El pasado aquí no es un refugio del presente, sino una fuente de significado que puede transformar nuestro mundo de hoy.

Ancient Now: A craft renaissance in the wider world.

We live in the age of the prequel. The popular sagas of our time—Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Game of Thrones—have now returned to their ancient roots.
We used to ask, "What's next?" and "What happens in the end?" Now we ask, "What happened in the beginning?"
Maybe we’re fearful of what’s ahead and want to go back. Maybe it’s a natural cycle to return back to the origins. It is timely, then, that the Tel Aviv Biennale of Craft and Design invites artists from across the world to share their works in a land so much associated in the world's imagination with the Biblical era, where foundational beliefs were forged. Their works connect us back to a diversity of ancestral roots.
This drive should not be associated with aggressive moves that seek a restoration of the glory days of the past, as in Make America Great Again, Brexit and the invasion of Ukraine. The past here is not a refuge from the present, but instead a source of meaning that can transform our world today.
